Twelve Days of Jordan
Cosmopolitan cities, ancient lands, Nabataean carvings, Roman theaters, Byzantine churches, religious sites, historic food, scuba diving, canyoneering, lovely people whose display of generosity and hospitality remains unparalleled even amongst frequent travelers … and all safe for a solo woman traveling. What more could you want from an educational vacation? The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan contains all of these things and the space to explore whichever is the focus for your journey.
Through the generosity of Jordan tourism, especially designed for a press trip for members of the International Food Wine and Travel Writers Association, we experienced a whirlwind tour of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. While every place we went we wished we had more time, it turns out that it’s a twelve-day tour chock full of interesting and exciting events that can work well for you, too.
For millennia, the area that is modern-day Jordan played an important role in trade and communications, connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe. Many don’t consider that the Middle East is Western Asia, but Jordan is just across the Red Sea from Egypt and shares a northern border with Syria, Israel, and the Golan Heights. This historic land held some of mankind’s earliest villages and settlements and the Jordanian Department of Antiquities has preserved many relics from this time for us to better understand all the many ways this region was important to both ancient and modern civilizations.
