The Must-See Gem Between Marbella and Malaga on Spain’s Costa del Sol

Our journey from Marbella to Malaga along Spain’s Costa del Sol was short in distance but rich in experiences, with a stop in the enchanting village of Mijas adding a memorable twist to our Andalusian adventure. Nestled in the mountains, just a 30-minute drive from Marbella, Mijas offered us a taste of traditional Andalusian life—a perfect blend of history, culture, and breathtaking scenery.

A Scenic Drive to Mijas: Gateway to Andalusian Charm
Leaving the golden beaches of Marbella behind, we headed north towards the mountains. The drive to Mijas, though brief, was a scenic delight. As the road wound its way upward, the Mediterranean Sea gradually gave way to lush hills and dramatic cliffs, a prelude to the picturesque village that awaited us. It wasn’t long before we caught our first glimpse of Mijas, its whitewashed buildings gleaming in the sunlight, clinging to the mountainside as if they were a natural part of the landscape

The history of Mijas, woven with threads from ancient civilizations and rich cultural heritage, founded by the Phoenicians in the 7th century BCE, this picturesque town has long been a crossroads of Mediterranean history. The Phoenicians, renowned for their seafaring prowess and trade networks, established Mijas as a strategic settlement along their maritime routes. Later, during the Roman era, the town was known for its agricultural prosperity, thanks to its fertile land and favorable climate.
