Staying at the Movenpick Hotel Petra in Jordan, just across the street from the Petra Archeological Site, you’ll want to make the time to stop at both their spa and swimming pool. Located on the Basement Level, the bottom stop on the elevator, you’ll glide along two long hallways to reach the spa desk. Here’s what you’ll want to know before you go.
Open from 10 am to 8 pm, many guests attempt to arrange their spa treatments upon their return from Petra. If you think there’s any chance you may be done with your day early, schedule an appointment before you go. Otherwise, they’re likely to be fully booked.
It’s up another staircase to the beautiful pool deck complete with a single-level pool, depth 155 cm (61 inches or 5 feet 1 inch), and chilled to a breezy 21C or 70F. With lounge chairs for lazing or sunbathing, each lounge has an umbrella that can protect you from Petra’s sunny days.
For fun, or to read a good book, curl up on one of the swinging chairs.
And for photos, take a few steps up the lifeguard’s chair for an excellent view.
In the area closest to the hotel, you’ll find tables and chairs if you’d like to have a picnic or order from the bar. You can also request lounge chair service… I saw several people ordering drinks multiple times.
During my visit, I rolled my ankle on my return trip to the Siq for our Daytime visit. So my lengthy visit was therapeutic. When I discovered how cold the water was, I used that, instead of hard to come by ice, to reduce the inflammation in my injured ankle. It worked like a charm.
After several hours of rest, I proceeded to the spa for an “Oriental” massage, their version of deep tissue. You’ll complete the questionnaire, pointing out the areas you’d like special attention to, and meet your therapist. They also have Swedish massage and more.
My masseur, Mousa, did not speak much English beyond checking for pressure requirements during the massage.
If, like me, you come here with a lovely, but non-English-speaking staff, it may help you to know that there are four lockers in the lady’s lounge. Check on the right-hand wall, choose one that has a key in the lock, and you’ll find the robe, towel, and slippers you’re likely accustomed to.
