The Nights in Rodanthe House

There are so many wonderful things to do and explore in the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Hang gliding with Kitty Hawk Kites. The Wright Brothers National Memorial. The Monument to the Century of Flight. Lost Colony of Roanoke. Horseback riding on Hatteras Island. Checking out all the Weather Station and Visitor Center have to offer. Checking out any one of the five lighthouses…

And for lovers of Nicolas Sparks’ book and subsequent movie, “Nights in Rodanthe,” enjoy the quick side trip to where they’ve moved the house in Rodanthe, NC. In it, Adrienne Willis, recovering from the breakup of her marriage, accepts her friend’s call for help to tend the Inn as a storm fixes to strike the island. Dr. Paul Flanner is that guest and, as the storm rages, they share their life stories and … well, you’ll just have to read the book or watch the movie.

The Visitor Center staff, Patricia, recalls seeing Richard Gere whilst he and Diane Lane were filming on their way to Ocracoke, “Him a cute little fella and his stand-in wasn’t hard on the eyes either.”

The gas station and bait shop just before the bridge can also provide directions but when you’re heading north, as soon as you see a Rodanthe sign, you’re in the area.

A fast east turn on Beacon Street and you’ll find the house third on the left.

Shortly after filming, the home was condemned due to coastal erosion that officially placed the home in the Atlantic Ocean. In 2010, the home was moved from that site to its new location with the help of electric crews, telephone companies and the local police. After two days of preparation, it only took 30 minutes along Highway 12.
